Transforming the world through education

The School Sisters of Notre Dame and organizations like the United Nations actively organize a variety of activities to celebrate everyone’s right to live a full life with dignity regardless of age, gender, sexuality, nationality, ethnicity, skin color, height, weight, profession, education, and beliefs.

They also use these opportunities to address those areas of the world where laws against discrimination do not exist; where leadership still uses discrimination and intimidation as a way of governing.  Global inequality affects each of us even if we are not in the part of the world where it is practiced. Our world is interconnected.  If people in one part of the world are denied a better life it will eventually limit all of us to live a better life.

The butterfly is the symbol of this day because people work towards a positive transformation of their world.
