During the night of November 9, 1989 crowds of Germans gathered and began dismantling the Berlin Wall which had divided their city since August 13, 1961. For SSNDs the wall also divided their province. After WW II the province of Berlin included all SSND convents in Berlin and in middle Germany. Because of the political agreements made at Yalta, the sisters belonged to different political systems, yet they were one religious community. With the fall of the Berlin Wall, Berlin was reunited and so was the Berlin Province.
