The Annunciation of the Lord, (is also known as the Annunciation to the Blessed Virgin Mary or the Annunciation of Our Lady), refers to the announcement by the angel Gabriel to Mary that she would conceive and bear a son through a virgin birth. She would be the mother of Jesus Christ, the Christian Messiah and Son of God. Gabriel told Mary to name her son Jesus, meaning salvation.  While many think of this strictly in terms of Christianity,  the Annunciation is also described in the Quran, in Surah 003:045
