During the 1960s-1970s most attention focused on Civil Rights and the global antiwar demonstrations. On July 31, 1973,  Sister Judith Best (St. Louis Province) joined the United Farm Workers and challenged the injunction that denied the UFW the right to form a picket line. Throughout the 1970s SSNDs joined with those demanding their rights and created learning opportunities for the sisters.
