Palms are considered as signs of peace and victory. For this day they are often woven into many shapes that have religous symbols like a cross, crown, rose, plant bud, bird, among others. Jesus’ entrance into Jerusalem was marked by these symbols and point towards the time of peace and spiritual victory.  Another symbol is the donkey.  At the time of Jesus military leaders, intent on combat, rode horses. Kings seeking what was beneficial for their people, especially peace, would ride donkeys to indicate nonviolent intentions.  

In 2021 Pope Francis said “Jesus says to each one of us: ‘Courage, open your heart to my love. You will feel the consolation of God who sustains you’.”
