There are many countries on the various continents that celebrate Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May. In Mexico and several Latin American countries, it is celebrated on a set date –May 10th of each year. The idea of a day to celebrate mothers can be traced back to the ancient Greeks. Early Christians set the fourth Sunday of Lent as a day to honor the Blessed Virgin. Over time as women played a large and larger role in society and this was reflected in how women were honored.
In modern times Mother Theresa wrote of the importance of having educated women. in the home and society. “A well-educated teacher can more easily accept persons where they are and help them than one who is inadequately educated; goodwill does not supply for lack of competence.”
