Mother Theresa, Sisters Caroline Friess, Magdalen Steiner, Barbara Weinzierl, Seraphine von Pronath, and Novice Emmanuela Breitenbach left Munich for the trip to the United States 1847. Because of the financing promised by the Louis Mission Society, Mother Theresa agreed to open a mission in St. Mary, Pennsylvania. The new Bishop of Milwaukee, John Martin Henni, learned of Mother Theresa’s trip and arranged to meet her in Baltimore. At that meeting, she promised an inspection tour of Milwaukee. As a result of the tour, she decided that Milwaukee was not suitable for the mission of the congregation at the time.
