In the aftermath of World War II the United Nations 51 countries committed formed an international organization  called the United Nations.
The leadership of the countries had agreed to

  • maintain international peace and security,
  • develop friendly relations among nations
  • achieve international cooperation in solving international problems
  • better living standards and promote respect for human right

The organization includes a number of NGOs to bring a broader voice to the international body. The School Sisters of Notre Dame have members who serve as NGOs.
