On July 22, 1892 telegrams were sent to the convents announcing the death of Mother Caroline. While it was expected because of her long illness, many said that they felt shocked at the news. Mother Caroline laid in state in the Soon-to-be Perpetual Adoration Chapel.  Her funeral was covered in the newspapers in many cities. In many of the SSND Chronicles are entries to the following: On Sunday the pastor informed the members of the parish of her death and invited parishioners “to attend the Solemn Requiem on the day of her burial.  Though it was harvest time, many of the parishioners came and offered Holy Communion for her soul. Almost all the children came in white. The church was tastily draped in black and white.”  (St. Agatha Orphanage House Chronicles Ont.)
