George Michael Wittmann was ordained in Regensburg in 1782. He served in Regensburg’s seminary in various positions until he died in 1833. This position allowed him to influence the formation of about 1500 priests. He was also influential in the spiritual and professional development of Mother Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger and in the formation of what would be the first constitution of the School Sisters of Notre Dame. From his position he was only a voice supporting the formation of the congregation, he insure that there was a solid financial foundation for the school and the convent. Bishop Wittmann died in 1833 the same year as the founding of the School Sisters of Notre Dame.
