From S. Eileen Reilly, Director of SSND UN-NGO Office
We had planned a pre-dawn departure, but we had not planned on snow. This was exciting for those who had never experienced falling snow. After attending Liturgy as the parish church in Wilton, we boarded the train to New York City. When we arrived there, the snow had turned to rain, which presented its own challenges as we stood in line with over a hundred others to secure our United Nations (UN) Badges that would confirm our status as official delegates to the Commission on the Status of Women. (CSW)
Proudly wearing our badges, we returned to Wilton for a session to plan the days ahead. In addition to the official meetings of the Commission, there are sessions planned to discuss key issues such as human trafficking and women migrants; there is an artisan marketplace where women from around the world offer items for purchase and there will be a townhall meeting with the UN Secretary General, António Guterres.
We ended the day, as we will end each day, with the opportunity for reflection and journaling on our experiences as well as on how we might share the experience when we return home.
