Season of Creation: Week 2 – Asia-Oceania
This week we share photos indicating some of the ways our Sisters and their students in Asia-Oceania live out our Laudato Si’ commitment..
- Sr. Clare Marie engaged in gardening. Sisters in Guam live in harmony with their environment on the island. They grow fruit, veggies, and herbs. They feed wild chickens and prepare places for them to nest and lay their eggs.
- Sr. Francine recycling water collected from the dehumidifier that will be used for the watering of plants and other purposes. The sisters in Guam and Japan are very mindful of their water and energy usage. They reuse and recycle whenever possible.
- Our sisters in Japan and the students at Kyoto Notre Dame University practice recycling where ever possible – collecting and recycling such things as clothing, wooden disposable chopsticks, and plastic disposable contact lens cases. (I know these pictures are small and encased within a pdf. I’m not sure if you have a way to use them or not – perhaps clip them into a small collage? But it’s what Sr. Francine and I received.)
- Notre Dame High School students and staff in Guam participate in community and coastal clean-up and other environmental protection efforts to care for our common home.
- Notre Dame High School students in Guam wrap presents for the less fortunate. In the SSND spirit of Shalom, students reflect care for the poor and marginalized through a variety of donation and charitable initiatives.
- Photo of shoes lined up on the Notre Dame High School gym bleachers. Hundreds of shoes were displayed on the gym bleachers to help to represent the souls of the victims of the holocaust on Holocaust Memorial Day. Students and faculty at both Notre Dame High School in Guam and Kyoto Notre Dame University in Japan use a variety of means to educate about human dignity, care for our common home, and the promotion of peace.
