School Sisters of Notre Dame elect international leadership team and set future direction
PRESS RELEASE: Forty-five School Sisters of Notre Dame from 30 countries came together 26 September – 24 October for their 24th General Chapter to elect a general council and set the future direction for the congregation for the next six years.

The 24th General Chapter concludes
The 24th General Chapter concluded during the morning on the 184th anniversary of the foundation of the congregation.
Thank you to Chapter Staff
On Monday, the General Chapter members said, “thank you” to the chapter staff in a special program during the morning prayer time.
Liturgy of Thanksgiving
On Saturday, the General Chapter participants traveled to Villa Assumpta, Baltimore. There they joined sisters from the area to celebrate a liturgy of thanksgiving for the general council elect.

General Chapter members began Tuesday’s session by standing for a minute in silence to mark the United Nations International Day for the Eradication of Poverty.

Nomination process and direction setting continue
In the morning, the chapter members met in the aula to move forward the nomination process.

There were two “agenda” items today. The first occupied the morning and afternoon. The second agenda item for the day was the festive thank you to the outgoing General Council.

Today, five provinces gave reports describing their origins, history and current reality, as well as an aspect of the political or social reality for each country in which sisters serve.

Sister Rosemary Howarth, novice director and former general superior, presented the Report on the Congregational Novitiate.

Setting the focus of the report, Sister Mary asked: “How do we, as we are, bring our living charism to bear on today’s world and church?”
Keynote Address: Father Donald Senior, CP
The General Chapter guest speaker today, Father Donald Senior, CP, delivered the keynote address “The Oneness to which We Are Called and for which We Are Sent: Biblical Reflections."
