Transforming the world through education

17 November 1985

40 years of beatification of Mother Theresia

In November, we remember the 40th anniversary of the beatification of our foundress in Rome by Pope John Paul II. Some of us were present for those rainy days that could not overshadow the joy of experiencing our unity and internationality – for the first time to this extent. In gratitude to Sister Mary Margaret Johanning and her councilors as well as the generalate community, we remember the gathering at the Generalate on November 16, with the renewal of our vows and the Triduum in the Papal churches following the beatification. SSNDs were joined by students, co-workers and people touched by the work of Mother Theresia and our sisters. Also, Sister Thekla from Brazil was present in Rome. She was healed miraculously, and her healing was recognized by the Church as proof of Mother Theresia’s holiness.

We remember

On 17 November 1985, Mother Theresa of Jesus Gerhardinger was beatified by Pope John Paul II in Rome.
